Antony Hewish and the 4-acre array

The Lord's Bridge Observatory has been at the forefront of radio astronomical research since it was founded in 1957. A history of the observatory and the contributions of the Astrophysics group can be found here.

Subject to the long-term plans of the future of the Lord's Bridge Observatory, there are opportunities for the development of a Radio Astronomy Heritage and Education Centre, building on existing outreach facilities.

There is a large demand for educational visits to the observatory and they have been very successful. There is a need to develop and enhance the existing infrastructure, models and educational material to increase involvement and engagement with young people and the public.
