Professor Bryan Webber FRSĀ studied at The Queen’s College, Oxford and moved to the University of California, Berkeley for his PhD (1969) in experimental particle physics.
After postdoctoral work at the Lawrence Radiation Laboratory he came to University of Cambridge, where by 1973 he had become head of the Theoretical High Energy Physics Group in the Cavendish Laboratory. He was elected a Fellow of Emmanuel College, Cambridge the same year, later serving as Director of Studies and Tutor.
He was appointed Professor of Theoretical Physics in 1999 and retired in 2010, becoming Emeritus Professor and a Life Fellow of Emmanuel College.
His research has focused on theoretical particle physics, especially strong interactions and the development of quantitative descriptions of particle collisions, including simulations relevant to experiments at the Large Hadron Collider, in collaboration with experimentalists and theorists.
He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 2001 and has received several major awards, including the Dirac Medal (2008), the Sakurai Prize (2012), and the European Physical Society High Energy and Particle Physics Prize (2021).
