Dr. Francesco D’Eugenio
Dr Francesco D’Eugenio is a Senior Research Associate at the Cavendish Laboratory and the Kavli Institute for Cosmology, both at the University of Cambridge. He is a member of the Extragalactic Research Group within Cavendish Astrophysics and participates in major international collaborations, including JADES, GA-NIFS, and MOONRISE. In addition to these roles, he is Principal Investigator on several high-profile open-time programs with leading observational facilities, most notably the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) and the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA).
Dr D’Eugenio’s research focuses on the observational study of galaxy formation and evolution, from the Cosmic Dawn to the present-day Universe. His work aims to uncover the physical processes that shape the structure and composition of galaxies. He has investigated topics such as chemical enrichment, galaxy size and kinematics, dark matter content, the co-evolution of supermassive black holes and their host galaxies, and the mechanisms responsible for galaxy quenching, the process by which galaxies — particularly the most massive ones — cease star formation.

This theme focuses on observational studies of the unexplored Universe; from its very first moments, through the mysterious early epochs when the Cosmos became the complex realm of celestial objects we know it to be.
