Biography:
Dr. Sivaniah graduated as a chemical engineer from Imperial College, London (1993) and received a PhD in Polymer Physics from the Cavendish Laboratory, Cambridge in 1997. He spent two years post-doctoral work in the Materials Department at the University of California - Santa Barbara. After this, he earned a Royal Society Junior Fellowship in partnership with a Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) fellowship to spend four years in Kyoto University, Japan. His research during this time was focussed on block copolymer structures in thin films. Dr. Sivaniah then spent a brief time as a tenure-track assistant professor at Texas Tech University and as a lecturer at Leeds University. In April 2008, Dr. Sivaniah was awarded a EPSRC Advanced Research Fellowship to develop an independent research group which he is currently undertaking in the Cavendish Laboratory. Dr. Sivaniah's group in Cambridge is developing research in the following topics (a) Dynamics and equilibrium phenomena in self-assembly and hierarchical structure formation in thin organic films. (b) Biological synthesis of sustainable polymeric materials. (c) Synthetic biology methods for materials. (d) Development of sustainability technology platform in macromolecular systems.
