Biography:

Physical Chemist by training. I have been in the Cavendish since 1994 and I have been involved in many research projects involving an inter-disciplinary approach. I have also been involved in educational outreach activities and IoP initiatives. However, research is my main driving force.

Research Interests:

Shock and high-rate loading on a variety of materials. Transient high pressures of up to half a million atmospheres can be produced in the laboratory - the effect on the material response, phase changes, damage mechanisms can be studied using high-speed diagnostics such a photography. Energetic and inert materials are studied for a number of fundamental as well as industrial applications e.g. quarrying.
Research Group - Surface, Microstructure and Fracture.
