Centre for Nanophotonics Officially Opened
- Prof Jeremy Baumberg, Prof Sir Richard Friend and Prof Peter Littlewood, Head of Department
The new labs for the Cambridge EPSRC-funded Portfolio Centre in NanoPhotonics were opened on Wednesday 23rd April 2008. The NanoPhotonics Centre, which is now split between Southampton and Cambridge following the recent move of Prof. Baumberg, investigates interactions between light and matter at the nanometre scale. Purpose-built state-of-the-art laboratories house a variety of lasers and specialised spectroscopy equipment for probing the nanophotonics properties of new materials devised by researchers.
Lab construction has been project managed by Peter Bystricky of the Cavendish Laboratory and a host of contractors, such as MillCam, Caldecots, the Cavendish workshop and maintenance teams, and others working to a high standard.
