Recall notice

There is a heat resistant glove/mitten recall. Please hand in all white/off white woven heat resistant gloves or mittens to the Safety Officer as soon as possible. A photograph of a typical glove is alongside. These were typically bought for use with furnaces, forges etc.

Please put the gloves/mittens in a sealed plastic bag (obtainable from Stores) and label with
your name
your room number
the approximate date the gloves were acquired, if known (pre-2000, between 2000 and 2006, post 2006).
Gloves that are suitable for further use will be returned to you.

Please do not place these in any waste bin.

Thank you.

How to get onto CamTools

I have set up a CamTools site, onto which online training courses will be put. The first is a fire training course. Everyone in the Department should do a fire course of some description every two years.

I have had reports of people having difficulty finding this; the following instructions have been kindly supplied by Richard Ordish.

First: Navigate to www.camtools.cam.ac.uk then

  1. Login with Raven (for internal users)
  2. Click on Courses & Projects (top right)
  3. Click on Joinable Courses & Projects tab
  4. Enter "Physics Safety" in the Search box
  5. Click Join link (far right)
  6. Click link (click to visit)

You should now see Physics Safety on your Startpage list

The Department Safety Officer is Jane Blunt: room 220 (opposite Rayleigh Library), telephone 37397, e-mail fjb27 'at' cam
