Probing the coherence of 2D atomic gases using matter wave heterodyningResearch Theme

We use nano-kelvin quantum gases as highly controllable systems to study novel many-body physics. Topics of particular interest include superfluidity, quantum magnetism, non-equilibrium phenomena, and the effects of reduced dimensionality on the properties of low-temperature phase transitions.

The goal of our experiments is to shed new light on outstanding problems in conventional condensed matter systems, such as He superfluids and high-Tc superconductors, and also to observe completely new collective phenomena which are of theoretical interest but have so far had no experimental realisation.
