After completing B.Sc. (Hons) and M.Sc. (physics) from the University of Punjab, Lahore, Pakistan, Dr. Chaudhri carried out research into Geiger Muller counters and the effects of impact of 1 MeV protons on metals at the High Tension Laboratory, Lahore. He came to the Cavendish on a Saigol Foundation scholarship in 1966 to do a Ph.D. under Professor Bowden in the PCS group. He obtained his Ph.D. in 1970 and has since been employed at the Cavendish by the University. He became a University Reader in 2001.
Nanomechanical properties of materials, studies of very fast phenomena using high-speed photography, pressure-induced phase transitions in semiconductors, and fast reactions in solids.
